Unlike porcelain veneers, which take more than one appointment, dental bonding can be completed in just one office visit. Dental bonding can deliver immediate results, giving you a more attractive smile in a short amount of time. At Sunrise Dental we love seeing the dramatic results that can occur after we apply dental bonding to our patients’ teeth.
What is Dental Bonding and What Does it Do?
Dental bonding is one of the easiest cosmetic procedures that can be performed to immediately improve the appearance of your smile. Made out of composite resin, the same material that we use in some types of dental fillings, it is applied directly to your teeth. It can help improve a wide assortment of dental concerns that you may have, including masking deep tooth stains that are resistant to whitening, chips or cracks on your teeth, gaps and spaces, and teeth that are uneven in size or shape.
How is it Applied?
Getting your teeth bonded is fairly easy and gentle. This procedure is very conservative to tooth structure.
It takes about an hour or so to complete depending on how many teeth are being bonded. We start by making sure your teeth are clean and ready to receive the dental bonding. Next, we will select the shade of the bonding material that we will use. This will help ensure that it looks natural and blends in seamlessly with the rest of your teeth. We do recommend doing an in-office whitening or using our professional strength whitening strips about one week prior to the bonding procedure so we optimize the impact of your dental bonding. Once we are satisfied with the color, we will then prepare your tooth by gently buffing and etching it. This allows the bonding material to adhere better to your teeth.
Then, we carefully place the composite bonding material on your tooth and mold and shape it to your tooth. Once we are confident that the shape looks good, we will cure the material with a special light. Lastly, we check your bite and floss and polish the teeth.
Taking Care of Bonded Teeth
Try to minimize exposure to dark colored beverages. This includes red wine, coffee and tea. Tobacco products can also stain your bonding just as they can stain your teeth. You can take care of teeth that have been bonded just like you would take care of your other teeth. Keep brushing and flossing them regularly. Avoid biting hard foods, as that can cause the bonding material to chip.
Dental bonding can greatly improve the appearance of your smile in just one day. To learn more about dental bonding, or to set up an appointment with us for a consultation for this procedure, please give Sunrise Dental a call today at 623-487-4870!
