What Are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is a metal post or screw that acts as a substitute tooth root to help support a single replacement tooth, bridge or denture. Because the implant is surgically inserted into the jawbone, it won’t come loose. Dental implants have a very high success rate of over 95%. Dental implants can also spare the tooth structure of your surrounding teeth since they do not have to be used as bridge supports. At Sunrise Dental we can perform dental implant procedures for our patients with missing or non-restorable teeth.

How Do Dental Implants Work?

For a dental implant to be successful, there must be adequate bone structure in place to support the implant. If the bone in the proposed implant area is too narrow or short, we may suggest a bone graft to build up the area.

The implant will be placed in the missing tooth site and will fuse or “osseointegrate” to your jawbone in a few weeks.  Your new implant will also provide stimulation and stability for your jaw bone. Without tooth roots, the jaw atrophies but your implant replaces those lost roots and preserves the bone

According to the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID), dental implants have a 97% long-term success rate.
