An intraoral camera is a handheld device that allows us to take up–close, color photos of your teeth, gums, tongue, palate and lesions or other structures that are more difficult to view. The intraoral camera is approximately the size of a large pen. One end has a small optical lens on it. On the other end, the intraoral camera is attached to a computer. Your view of your mouth is rather limited. The photos we take with the intra-oral camera allow us to show you conditions in your mouth that you probably could not see. It helps us to educate our patients on the conditions that we see. It also helps us document conditions that exist to send to insurance companies on your behalf. Many patients have never seen up close photos of their teeth!
More Thorough Oral Exams—Take a Unique Look Inside Your Mouth!!
With the intraoral camera, you can see exactly what we see, all displayed right on the computer monitor. Because you can see what we see, you are better able to understand your diagnosis and the need for certain treatments. Patients with anxiety can see exactly what is being done inside their mouths, which can help to alleviate nervousness and uneasiness.
Improving the Long Term Quality of Your Records.
Dental files are stored on the computer or in the cloud. This includes any digital images that are taken, including X-rays and images we take with the intraoral camera. With digital storage, there is a significantly lower risk of your images getting lost or ruined. Digitally storing your images eliminates the need to dig through a paper file, keeping your appointment focused on what is most important. The quality of your digital images does not deteriorate over time as with traditional x-rays, photos or paper files.
Become More Active in Your Oral Care
The images we take with the intraoral camera can be printed or e-mailed to you so that you can share them with your family if you would like.
