Professional Teeth Whitening in Peoria, AZ

The simple procedure of whitening your teeth not only enhances the beauty of your smile, but it can also boost self-confidence at work and in social situations. Whitening (also known as bleaching) is a non-invasive and simple procedure that will brighten your teeth in as little as 60 minutes with our in-office procedure.

What about Other Dental Work?

Professional teeth whitening in our office is completely safe for your teeth and will not negatively impact other dental work. However, if you have older fillings, crowns or other dental restorations, you should be aware that teeth whitening treatments will only improve the appearance of natural teeth. For that reason, you may need to consider replacing some restorations after bleaching your teeth so they match the new and improved shade of your smile.

Reasons to Consider Whitening Your Teeth

Our teeth do a lot of hard work for us. In the process, they may lose their natural sparkle. Professional teeth whitening can be a great way to brighten the appearance of your teeth if they have:

  • Brown or yellow stains due to smoking or diet
  • Discolorations or white spots due to fluorosis
  • Stains due to certain medications
  • Normal aging of the enamel and dentin

The Teeth Whitening Process

In-Office

Our in-office, professional whitening treatment takes about 60 minutes. Patients simply relax in the chair while the whitening gel is applied to their teeth. The gel sits on the teeth for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, the gel is rinsed off and another application of whitening gel is placed. Ideally, 3 applications of gel are completed.

At-Home

For at home teeth whitening, we offer professional strength, take-home teeth whitening strips.

Our professional strength whitening strips have a more powerful bleaching agent than the over the counter strips found at the store.

Caring for Your Whitened Teeth

Very rarely, teeth whitening can cause tooth sensitivity. Fortunately, tooth whitening products have greatly improved over the years and most people do not experience any sensitivity. If you do experience sensitivity during or after an in-office whitening procedure, Tylenol or Ibuprofen is usually adequate to make you more comfortable. We may also apply a desensitizing fluoride. In addition, sensitivity toothpaste can help with the symptoms.

Teeth whitening isn’t a permanent procedure. Teeth naturally become stained or yellowed over time. For the best results, dentist Peoria AZ recommends refraining from consuming any food or beverage that would stain a white T-shirt while you are doing your at home whitening or for at least 24 hours after an in-office whitening procedure.  Think berries, tea, coffee, wine, mustard, even soy sauce, etc. When you enjoy these foods and beverages after treatments, do so sparingly and with proper brushing and flossing afterward. Every year or two, it’s a good idea to do a touch-up whitening.
