What to Expect When Getting Invisalign
Have you been considering straightening your teeth? You’ve probably heard of Invisalign, but how does Invisalign work? Schedule a visit with Sunrise Dental in Glendale. We’ll explain how Invisalign works, and explore whether it’s right for you during your complimentary consultation. Read on to learn more about what to expect when you get Invisalign.
How Does Invisalign Work?
Invisalign straightens teeth gently and discreetly using a series of clear, plastic aligners. 3D scans and digital imaging help to forecast a sequence of adjustments. Changing the aligners every one to two weeks gently and gradually repositions your teeth.
Getting Invisalign will change more than just your smile—it also helps to prevent periodontal disease and tooth decay. Many alignment problems can be corrected with Invisalign: crooked teeth, crowded teeth, overbite, underbite, crossbite, and gaps. Invisalign can also help with conditions like bruxism that are caused by an abnormal bite or crooked teeth.
Many people prefer Invisalign as an alternative to metal braces because the clear aligners are less noticeable and more comfortable. The removable aligners also make it easier to keep your teeth clean and allow you to eat normally. You can still enjoy all your favorite foods—just remember to floss and brush before you put your aligners back in!
Invisalign at Sunrise Dental
Your first step toward Invisalign is to schedule a consultation. If Invisalign is right for you, we’ll set up a treatment plan and take 3D scans of your teeth with our iTero Element scanner. Every set of aligners is designed specifically for you. Scanning at 6,000 images per second, the iTero Element scanner creates an extremely accurate model of your mouth to obtain a perfect fit.
At your first visit we’ll make sure your aligners fit properly and teach you how to insert and remove them. We’ll go over the proper care routines and answer all of your questions. We’ll set appointments every six to eight weeks to check on your progress and provide you with your next set of aligners.
Some patients may need “buttons” to lock their aligners in place. If that’s the case, we will use dental composite to make tiny, tooth-colored bumps on strategic teeth that attach to your aligners. The attachments cause absolutely no harm to your enamel. Once your Invisalign treatment is complete, we’ll just polish the composite attachments away.
What to Expect When You Get Invisalign
Aligning your teeth can take from nine to fifteen months, with most patients completing their treatment in less than a year. Invisalign is a big commitment on your part—your aligners won’t work if you don’t wear them properly. You’ll start seeing results after just a few weeks, but be prepared to make some lifestyle adjustments.
Although you will remove your aligners to eat, meals are the exception. Recommended wear time is 22 hours a day, so you’ll have to get used to snacking less and sleeping with the aligners on. You’ll still need to wear a plastic retainer at night after the treatment is complete, to ensure that your teeth keep their alignment.
