Five Picture-Perfect Smile Tips for Wedding Season

The days are getting longer and warmer, flowers are blooming, and bees are buzzing. That can mean only one thing—wedding season is here! Whether you’ll be walking down the aisle or attending a friend or relative’s ceremony, you’re bound to show up in either formal or candid photographs. Here are Sunrise Dental’s top five tips on how to look good in wedding photos this season.

Five Smiling Tips for Wedding Photos

Tip 1: Practice Makes Perfect

Smiling is a lot like any other activity—if you want to do it well, you need to practice! Stand in front of a mirror and smile. Try different angles—what’s your best side? Does your smile look better if you tilt your head slightly? If you will have your hair in a different arrangement than usual, see how that changes your face when you smile. And try different body poses as well—the way your body angles from the camera can affect the way your smile looks.

If you’re not quite sure where to start, there are lots of great photography tips from celebrities who have their pictures taken all the time.

Tip 2: Wear a Creamy, Moist Lipstick

On your wedding day, try to wear lipstick or lipgloss that is creamy and has some moisture. A dry lipstick or sticky lipgloss will make it harder for your lips to slide over your teeth easily when you smile. If you feel your lipstick is too dry, lick your lips lightly in between photos .

Tip 3: Don’t Look Directly at the Camera

While it may sound counterproductive, one of our top smiling tips is to ignore the camera. Believe it or not, the most unflattering angle for most people is straight-on facing the camera lens. Instead look around the camera lens but not right at it. You can also try looking at someone next to you or at something in your hand.

Tip 4: Get Your Teeth Professionally Cleaned and Whitened

The best smiles start with clean, white teeth. If it’s time for your annual teeth cleaning, make sure to book at an appointment before the wedding. And if you have some stains on your teeth, consider having your teeth professionally whitened. The friendly dentists at Sunrise Dental would love to give you a bright smile for your big day.

Tip 5: Relax and Have Fun!

Last on our list of tips for smiling is the easiest one to follow—just have fun! If you’re tense and thinking about whether the photographer is capturing your best angle or not, it will show in your photos. Strained shoulders cause your neck and facial muscles to stiffen, making it harder to smile. Remember why you’re at the wedding, focus on how happy you are and how much fun you’re having, relax, and then just smile.
